The Tempietto di Villa Barbaro is a small church in Maser, Veneto, standing across the road from the Barbaro family’s Renaissance villa at the foot of the Asolo hills. Designed by Andrea Palladio near the end of his life, it translates the forms of ancient Roman architecture into a Christian place of worship. A columned portico and triangular pediment front a circular, domed interior, combining the appearance of a classical temple with the spatial character of a centralized church. Its compact silhouette contrasts with the villa’s broad façade, while the pale masonry, deep portico shadows and curved dome make its geometry especially legible from the approach.
