📍 Italy
The Teatro Romano di Gubbio stands on the plain below the historic center, just beyond the medieval walls, creating a striking dialogue between Roman Iguvium and the stone city climbing the slopes of Monte Ingino. Built in the late 1st century BC from local limestone, the theater preserves its semicircular seating plan, sections of the cavea, vaulted passages, and remains of the stage complex. Its weathered arches and pale masonry are especially distinctive when framed against Gubbio’s dense rooftops and the prominent Palazzo dei Consoli above. The open archaeological setting clearly reveals the structure’s scale and geometry, while performances occasionally return the ancient venue to its original function.
