📍 Spain
Built in the 1st century BC under Emperor Augustus, this Roman theater is Málaga's oldest monument, discovered by accident in 1951 during construction work. Restored to showcase its original design, it now hosts cultural events and offers public access. Adjoining the Alcazaba fortress, the site forms an impressive historical ensemble just steps from the city center. Admission is typically free, and a small interpretation center provides background on Roman-era life. Open daily except Mondays, the theater lets you step onto the restored stage for a unique sense of ancient performances. After exploring, head to the Alcazaba for an immersion in Málaga’s Islamic past. Photography is permitted, making it easy to capture the enduring columns and arches.
