Teatro Kursaal Fernando Arrabal stands on Avenida Cándido Lobera in central Melilla, within the city’s architecturally rich modern expansion. Designed by Enrique Nieto and opened in 1930 as a cinema, it is a notable local example of Art Deco, with strong vertical lines, geometric ornament and a stepped, symmetrical façade. Its present name honors Fernando Arrabal, the Melilla-born playwright and filmmaker. Viewed straight on, the pale frontage, rhythmic windows and sculpted crown create a formal composition that contrasts with the surrounding streetscape, while illuminated signage reinforces its identity as an active cultural venue.
