Gorreana is the oldest and only surviving tea plantation in Europe and it's located on the remote island of Sao Miguel, in the Portuguese Azores archipelago. It is a picturesque and tranquil site with beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean. The estate dates back to the 1800s when it was founded by Joao Miguel de Sousa. The tea production is still family-run, and harvests up to 30 000kg of tea every year. Visitors are able to book guided tours in English and can explore the sweeping plantations, the stunningly tranquil and colourful gardens, and even try a cup of the award-winning tea for themselves. The area is also renowned for its June wildflower display and its unique geology, formed by volcanic activity centuries ago. There is the possibility of camping on the plantation site for those wishing to spend more time in the Azorean countryside.
