Taos Pueblo is the historic, living pueblo community on the north bank of the Rio Pueblo, home to the Taos people for centuries and visible as a compact cluster of terraced adobe houses built in stepped, multi‑story blocks. Its visual interest comes from the dense, earth‑toned masonry, wooden ladders and portals, and the way the rectangular volumes stack like a living cliff face against the river and surrounding high desert. Light late in the day brings out warm reds and ochres; winter snows make a striking contrast. Remember this is an inhabited and sacred place: some parts are private and certain ceremonies and close portraits are not open to visitors, so observe posted signs and local requests about photography.
