Located in the city of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, India, the Taj Mahal is a symbol of Indian culture and history. The iconic white marble mausoleum is widely considered one of the most beautiful monuments in the world, and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. It was built between 1632 and 1653 by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a tribute to his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The sprawling palace complex is framed by majestic gates, the picturesque Yamuna river, and a number of luxurious gardens. The main mausoleum is an inspiring mix of Islamic, Persian, and Indian architectural styles. Inside, intricate marble carvings pay homage to Islamic culture, and beautiful calligraphy adorns the walls and ceilings of the chamber. The complex also includes a number of other monuments such as the Jawab and Mosque, Mahtab Bagh and Charbagh, where visitors can explore the fascinating history of the Mughal Empire. Be sure to visit the Taj Mahal's nearby landscape and take in its beautiful views.
