📍 From Inside, Iran
Tabatabaei Historical House is a grand Qajar-era merchant residence in Kashan’s old Sultan Amir Ahmad quarter, close to several of the city’s celebrated traditional houses. Its inward-looking design responds to the desert climate: sunken courtyards, pools, gardens, shaded chambers, windcatchers and deep basements create cooler private spaces behind an understated street façade. Elaborate stucco reliefs, mirrorwork, carved doors and multicolored sash windows reflect the wealth of Kashan’s merchant families and the separation of reception and domestic quarters. For photographs, the strongest compositions come from courtyard symmetry, reflections in the pools, layered arches and colored light passing through stained glass onto pale plaster.
