Szeroka Street is one of the main pedestrian shopping streets in Toruń’s historic centre, leading east from the Old Town Square toward Królowej Jadwigi Street and the New Town. Its name means “wide,” a fitting contrast to the tighter lanes nearby. Rows of historic merchant townhouses reflect Toruń’s development as a trading city on the Vistula, their façades altered over successive centuries rather than belonging to one uniform architectural style. Colored plaster, decorative window surrounds and ground-floor shopfronts give the street its visual rhythm, with the generous pedestrian space revealing the buildings as a continuous streetscape. Shoppers, café tables and passing residents place these historic façades within the everyday life of the city.
