Esztergom is one of Hungary's oldest cities and the center of Roman Catholic Church in Hungary. Szent István coronation is probably one of its most important attractions. It is a small chapel built on the terrace of the esplanade. It was built in the style of the Holy Roman Empire and commemorates the coronation of St. Stephen as Hungary's first Christian ruler in 1000AD. Inside you will find marble artifacts, sculptures, paintings, murals, stained glass windows and a cobalt blue vaulted ceiling. Visiting the chapel you have a stunning view of the Danube River as well as of the famous Esztergom Basilica. The coronation place is right in the heart of the city, near the castle and the basilica and should be part of anyone's itinerary when visiting Esztergom!
