Széchenyi Chain Bridge and Stephen Széchenyi Square in Budapest, Hungary is a must-see for any traveler. Sitting prominently on the western bank of the Danube, the Széchenyi Chain Bridge is the first permanent bridge to span the river. It was designed by English engineer, William Tierney Clark, and was named in honour of Hungarian statesman István Széchenyi. The best-known feature of Stephen Széchenyi Square is that the massive Chain Bridge starts here. Statues commemorating Hungarian national leaders, Franz Joseph and Stephen Széchenyi, are also found here to commemorate their important contributions to Hungarian history. The area also features great views of the Buda Hills. Its perfect for exploring the city on foot and taking in the wonderful views of the old town of Buda and the Parliament Building. No visit to Budapest should miss out on these two stunning landmarks.
