The Surrealist Garden is one of the themed spaces at Hamilton Gardens, beside the Waikato River. Inspired by surrealist art, it turns an ordinary garden scene strange through shifts in scale: giant topiary and oversized flowers make visitors appear small. Its carefully composed paths and exaggerated forms create playful photographs, with a person in the frame giving a clear sense of just how outsized the details are.
