📍 Türkiye
Sultan Mahmut Bendi is an Ottoman-era dam in the Belgrad Forest near Bahçeköy, within Istanbul’s Sarıyer district. Named for Sultan Mahmud II, it belongs to the historic Taksim water-supply network, which channelled water from the forest to neighbourhoods north of the Golden Horn. The dam illustrates the engineering behind the expanding Ottoman capital, away from its better-known palaces and mosques. Its curved masonry wall gives the scene a distinct architectural shape, contrasting with the wooded reservoir, reflected foliage and changing seasonal colours.
