Sugarloaf Mountain is one of the most iconic and popular tourist attractions in Brazil. Located in Rio de Janeiro's spectacular Copacabana neighbourhood, Sugarloaf Mountain (or Pão de Açúcar in Portuguese) is a 396 meter tall granite peak that rises directly out of the ocean, and offers incredible, panoramic views of the city of Rio and its surrounding areas.
You can take the cable car to the top of Sugarloaf mountain, or you can hike up, where you'll find two observation areas, where you'll find a 360 degree view of Rio, as well as a snack bar. At the base of the mountain, you'll find the Fort of São João, which dates from the 17th century and has its own fascinating history. Sugarloaf Mountain is open daily from 8am to 8pm and the cable cars run from 9am to 6pm. The cable cars are safe, clean and efficient and the queue usually moves very quickly. The cost of a round trip ticket is about US$27.
