The streets of Lucignano wind through a compact, hilltop town in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany, laid out in a distinctive elliptical, concentric plan that still reads in the curving lanes and rings of medieval walls. Visually the town offers tight vanishing points, low ochre and brick facades, arched portals and carved stone doorframes that reveal layers of medieval and Renaissance repair. Many lanes funnel toward the small central piazza and the Collegiata di San Michele, so compositions often show converging lines, textured masonry, wrought-iron signs and occasional glimpses of tower silhouettes framed by gateway arches. Note the intimate scale and strong shadow patterns on narrow streets; several preserved city gates mark transitions between outer ramparts and the denser inner core.
