The Street of Facades is a group of Nabataean rock-cut tombs lining the sandstone cliffs along Petra’s main route, beyond the Treasury and before the theatre. The carved fronts mark burial chambers rather than houses or shops, making this stretch part of the ancient city’s funerary landscape. Several facades feature stepped, crenellated crowns, a distinctive motif in Nabataean tomb architecture, while erosion has softened others into the surrounding rock. Dark entrances at different heights contrast with pink, red and ochre sandstone, creating a rhythm of openings across the cliff. Wider views reveal how the monuments follow the natural rock face rather than the regular frontage suggested by the name “street.”
