📍 United States
Chicago’s street art is spread across neighborhood walls rather than gathered at a single site, with notable concentrations in Pilsen and the South Loop’s Wabash Arts Corridor. Pilsen’s murals reflect the neighborhood’s Mexican American identity through cultural symbols, portraits and scenes of community life, while the Wabash corridor brings large-scale contemporary works into the downtown streetscape. The city’s public-mural tradition also includes the 1967 Wall of Respect in Bronzeville, a landmark of the Black Arts Movement that celebrated Black cultural figures. In the Wabash corridor, multistory paintings share the frame with windows, fire escapes and surrounding architecture; in Pilsen, painted brickwork connects the imagery more closely to the texture and everyday life of the neighborhood.
