Stephen the Great Monument

Moldova's capital of Chișinău is home to the Stephen the Great Monument, honouring the country's greatest ruler. It was erected in 1983 and is one of the main sightseeing attractions of the city. As the largest statue in the Republic of Moldova, it stands 25 metres tall and houses a museum with historical exhibits relating to the life of Stephen the Great. The statue faces the Dniester River, and visitors can climb the stairs up to the balcony, where the view stretches across the expanse of the city. Nearby is the Monument to Brotherhood and Unity, that celebrates the union of two parts of Moldova in the 19th century.
