The Steel Bridge in Portland, Oregon, is a complex vertical-lift bridge spanning thee Willamette River, connecting the city's northwestern and southeastern districts. It is one of 13 bridges that span the Willamette and its the only double-deck vertical-lift bridge in the United States. The bridge carries automobile, bus, streetcar, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic over the river, and with its lower deck carrying rail lines and shipping traffic. The upper deck is 40 feet (12 meters) above the water, and the lower deck is 6.5 feet (2 meters) above. The Steel Bridge itself is 217.7 feet (66.3 meters) wide with an overall length of 2,788 feet (850 meters). It offers stunning views of the city's bridges, skyline, and Mount Hood, so make sure to enjoy them during your visit.
