The Statue of Liberty in Paris, France is an iconic representation of the French Republic and its ideals of liberty, equality and fraternity. Located in the Place de la Concorde, the monument was given to France in 1889 by the United States as a symbol of mutual friendship and respect. The neoclassical sculpture stands at 46 metres and is made of copper and bronze. It is the work of Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi who, along with Gustave Eiffel, was also responsible for the designs of the armature, internal structure and foundation. The Statue of Liberty was inaugurated in July 1889 and officially opened to the public in October. Since then, it has enchanted Parisians, visitors and photographers. Its base is also open to visitors, where they can find dedication plates from countries all over the world. The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of Paris and should be one of the stops in any tour of the city.
