The Statua del Cristo Redentore in Portopalo di Capo Passero, Italy, is a large, impressive statue of Jesus Christ made of concrete with an attached external stairway. The statue dominates the skyline of this small fishing village located on the extreme southeastern tip of Sicily. The statue was built as a symbol of gratitude to the late local Admiral Giuseppe Garibaldi who saved the town from a long history of Saracen pirate raids and invasions. Located on a rocky plateau, the view from the monument stretches out over the Gulf of Noto, offering stunning views of the Ionian and Mediterranean seas. Visitors can climb the staircase and enjoy panoramic views of the deep blue sea from the monument's terrace. The statue is 65 ft tall, and the neo-Roman style makes it an interesting site for photographers.
