The State of Pennsylvania Monument is a structure in Cumberland Township, the United States. It was dedicated in 1901 and celebrates the first permanent homes of European settlers in Pennsylvania. The monument is made up of a small stone obelisk and is located in an 8-acre mountaintop park with trails, woods, and an observation tower. Visitors can climb the 65-foot observation tower for panoramic views of the Cumberland Valley. Hiking trails wind through the park, offering close-up views of the monument and the surrounding countryside. The surrounding area is rich in history, being the site of the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. The State of Pennsylvania Monument is open free of charge 365 days a year and offers great views of the historic landscape.
