The State of Pennsylvania Monument is one of the most iconic monuments in Gettysburg National Military Park. Erected in 1895, the monument was commissioned in honor of the nearly 38,000 Pennsylvanian soldiers who fought during the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. The monument stands 64 feet high, complete with a six-foot bronze statue of a Union soldier on the top tier. The statue stands watch over the national park, commemorating the immense numbers of Pennsylvanian Soldiers that fought and died during the battle. It is an iconic part of the Gettysburg battlefield.
