Starkenburg is a 11th century castle, located in the delightful town of Heppenheim in the Bergstraße Region of Germany. The castle has been throughout centuries withstood sieges, renovations, and excavation. Remnants of the medieval past still can be admired at Starkenburg today, with enclosures, warder's house, walls, and a chapel. Much of the castle is still in ruins, although it was partially renovated in the 19th century. Along with the castle, the nearby Burg Ellers is also a popular attraction in Heppenheim. The Ellers has many highlights, including a moat, fountain, gates, towers, and beautiful views of the town. Both Starkenburg and Ellers are a beautiful reminder of Hessen and Germany's history.
