Starfield Library is an open reading and cultural space inside Starfield COEX Mall in Samseong-dong, Seoul’s Gangnam district, where shopping and the COEX convention complex meet. Its roughly 13-metre-high bookshelves rise through a two-storey atrium, giving the retail setting a monumental focal point. Rather than operating as a conventional lending library, it invites visitors to read on site, making books and shared seating part of the mall’s everyday public life. The towering shelves turn thousands of colorful book spines into an architectural texture, while overhead glazing brings daylight into the interior. From the upper level, the shelves, escalators and reading tables form a layered composition; people browsing below make the scale immediately legible.
