The Stadtmauer und Wehrturm in Füssen is the surviving fragment of the town’s medieval fortifications that mark the compact Bavarian old town beside the Lech. The stone wall and stout defensive tower read as tangible layers of the town’s past, their rough masonry, narrow arrow-slit openings and crenellated silhouette offering a clear contrast to the pastel facades and baroque church spires nearby. Photographically, the tower provides a strong vertical anchor against the backdrop of alpine foothills; the wall’s receding line and adjacent cobbled alleys create leading lines and scale, while seasonal snow or low winter light accentuate the textures of stone and mortar. The site is encountered within Füssen’s pedestrian streets, making close-up architectural studies and contextual street views easy to compose.
