Stadtbibliothek, in Stuttgart, Germany, is the main structure of the city’s library system, and is found in central Stuttgart. It houses a wide selection of books, manuscripts, magazines, sound recordings and videos, in addition to providing other services such as a reading room and computer access. Designed by Bavarian architect Carl Schäfer in 1965, Stadtbibliothek’s modernist exterior is characterized by its 7-storey pyramidal roof, juxtaposed by its spacious atrium. The outside walls are made of red brick, and the roof is thinly painted steel, to increase the building’s lightness. Stadtbibliothek’s atrium is a popular site for concerts, literature readings, and film screenings. Throughout the year, the library also partners with other institutions to host exhibitions, talks and special events. Visitors can explore the building’s ground and first floors, which are open to the public, and enjoy its impressive interiors.
