📍 Serbia
St. Sava Church is a wooden Serbian Orthodox church in Drvengrad, also known as Mećavnik, the hilltop village created by filmmaker Emir Kusturica above Mokra Gora. Its dedication honors Saint Sava, the first archbishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church and a central figure in Serbia’s religious history. Built in the tradition of Russian wooden churches, its steep roof, narrow tower and cross give it a distinctive silhouette among the village’s timber houses. The wood textures and surrounding forested hills connect the building visually to its mountain setting. Drvengrad was developed in connection with Kusturica’s film Life Is a Miracle, so the church sits within a deliberately composed village landscape rather than an old settlement that grew around it.
