📍 From Taylor Street, United States
St. Paul the Prospector Episcopal Church, in Virginia City, United States is a historical landmark dating back to 1876 when the Church of England assigned a traveling priest to serve the Catholic congregation in Nevada’s growing gold rush town. Rendered in the traditional Victorian style of the period, the church is made of sandstone boulders gathered from the nearby hills. This beautiful structure from an earlier era invites the public inside to explore the lace curtains, stained-glass windows, and grand arched ceilings. The only original fixtures remaining are the hand-carved pulpit, organ and pews. The original organ no longer works, but a replica of the instrument was installed in time for the church’s centennial celebration in 1976. Visitors can also explore the beautiful grounds, with marble heads of three former priests and a sizable statue of the Virgin Mary. The Church continues to serve the Catholic community of Virginia City to this day.
