St. Nikolaikirche Aue, in Aue-Bad Schlema, Germany is an impressive Romanesque church, built in the 12th century. The church was built on the remains of a former Romanesque basilica dating from the 10th century, and the walls that surround the apse are the original ones. There are many intricate details in its architecture, from the stylised Gothic windows to the old Romanesque reliefs of the aisle. It still serves as a place of worship and its doors are open during the day, allowing visitors to admire its beauty. The local legend speaks of a giant who over time turned into a rock which can be seen in front of the church and has become a popular photo spot.
