St. John Baptist Church (Ix-Xewkija) is a Roman Catholic parish church located in the small village of Ix-Xewkija. It is the largest church in Malta and the most prominent feature of the village skyline. The Church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist and is built in Baroque style. Its impressive dome stretches 110 feet above the street, reaching over 200 feet when the three towers are combined. Inside, the Church boasts an interesting collection of art and sculptures, taking visitors back to the Baroque period. You will find frescoes which adorn the domes, and intricately carved stone decorations adorn the walls. The richly adorned columns, arches and balustrade of the church make a stunning sight, day or night. Visitors can also admire the procession statues, pulpit, marble architraves and paintings by renowned Maltese artist Giuseppe Cali, all inside the church. There is also a museum showcasing the rich history of the Church.
