St. Benet's Abbey
📍 United Kingdom
St. Benet's Abbey is an ancient historical site located in Norfolk, United Kingdom. Constructed in the 11th century for the Benedictine order, the Abbey was waterlogged twice in the 13th century and after that it mostly remained abandoned. Today, all that remains is a ruin, but the ruin’s architecture and beauty still draw visitors to it. The main attraction is the dolmen-like south east corner which is the most intact part of the whole ruin, with a distinctively Romanesque design. A path leads across the meadows and it is surrounded by lovely woodland. An Anglo-Saxon carpenter's chisel and a knife were found in a nearby field. If you visit, take a few moments to enjoy the peace and tranquility that this place offers and imagine what it would have been like in its heyday.
