📍 From Inside, Belgium
Opened in 1933, this pedestrian tunnel—also called Sint-Annatunnel—connects Antwerp’s left bank to the bustling city center beneath the River Scheldt. Descend via its nostalgic wooden escalators and step into a functional piece of history, offering a unique throwback to the early 20th century. At 572 meters long, the tunnel provides a practical shortcut for locals and tourists alike, whether you’re on foot or bike. Access is free, and once you emerge on the other side, you’re greeted with splendid views of Antwerp’s skyline. Remember to keep an eye out for cyclists who also use the tunnel—its narrow walkway can get busy, especially during peak season.
