The Spundmauer/Küstenschutzanlage (Coastal Protection Structure) on the German island of Spiekeroog is an amazing sight to see. This 3,8km long coastal protection structure, made of long fences and massive sandbags, was built in the early 20th century to keep the island safe from sea level rise and coastal flooding. Every few years, the sandbags and fences are replaced as needed. Visitors to the island can appreciate the land art of the Spundmauer and also spend some time exploring the seaside dunes and beaches. If you are into photography and want to capture the ever-changing views of the Spundmauer and the beach, you can take amazing pictures of the waves crashing against the sandbags or the sunsets over the dunes.
