📍 Canada
Spray Lakes Reservoir is a long, narrow hydroelectric reservoir in Kananaskis Country, south of Canmore in Alberta’s Canadian Rockies. Created by damming the Spray River, it fills a mountain valley bordered by conifer forest and rugged limestone peaks. The gravel Smith-Dorrien/Spray Trail follows its eastern side, opening views across the water toward the western mountain slopes. In calm conditions, reflections extend the mountain silhouettes into the blue-green water, while the reservoir’s elongated shape draws the eye deep into the valley. Water levels fluctuate with reservoir operations, exposing shoreline bands that contrast with the forest above—a visible reminder that this alpine scene is also part of a working energy landscape.
