Mount Gornergrat is a 3,135 m (10,285 ft) high rocky ridge in Switzerland's Pennine Alps, located south of Zermatt in the canton of Valais. It provides one of the most spectacular panoramic views in the entire Alps. Stretching across the entire length of wall of the northern side of the mountain, the Gornergrat offers a wonderful 180-degree panoramic view of dozens of summits of the finest Alps. The Monte Rosa massif and its highest summit Dom (4,546 m / 14,911 ft) take centre stage in the panorama while they are surrounded by Matterhorn and the majestic glaciers of Zermatt and Tasch. The Gorner Glacier snakes underneath the western entrance of the Gornergrat. Moreover, Gornergrat railway is a marvel itself, offering a remarkable journey across several amazing bridges and tunnels along the Bernese Oberland. The Gornergrat railway stops at Rotenboden station (2,978 m / 9,775 ft) where hikers and skiers can explore the many trails in the area. You will also find plenty of fine restaurants to stop in while you are there.
