Spiaggia Bastioni is the narrow shoreline that runs along Otranto’s historic bastioned city walls on the Adriatic coast of Apulia. Its interest is the direct juxtaposition of medieval stone fortifications and the open sea: the pale limestone of the ramparts and watchtowers sits immediately above the water, where carved masonry, weathered steps and small rock shelves meet turquoise surf. Photographically, the site gives strong compositional contrasts — horizontal sea and horizon against the vertical rhythm of crenellations and buttresses — plus rich textures in the sun-washed stone and wet rock. Late-afternoon light emphasizes warm tones in the walls and long shadows; calm days yield glassy reflections at the foot of the bastions. The beach is contiguous with Otranto’s old town, so views include the fortified silhouette that defines the town’s waterfront.
