Spaso-Preobrazhenskiy Sobor, or Saviour Transfiguration Cathedral, is an iconic landmark in Pereslavl-Zalessky, Russia. Built in the 1530's, this vast white-stone building stands at the heart of thetown, behind the Kremlin walls. Inside, visitors can view one of the largest collections of frescoesin Russia. They date from the 1520s and feature stylized portraits of saints from the Greek, Slavic and Roman Orthodox traditions. Other highlights include a carved panel above the main entrance, a richly decorated altar and several smaller chapels. Today, it remains a popular destination for travelers interested in exploring the region’s religious heritage.
