Southend Pier in Southend-on-Sea is the world's longest pleasure pier at 1.3 miles long (2.16 kilometres). It's a great place to take a leisurely stroll, get fish and chips, or take a boat ride. In 2013, the local tourist board established the Southend Pier Museum, which showcases the region's seafaring history. There's also a great old Art Deco Kursaal fun fair at the seaward end leased from Southend Council, which features two of the world's longest drop slides along with games and rides. Enjoy the views as you take a ride on the original Victorian-era railway, or if you want to just relax like the locals, take a seat on the wide, sandy beach. Explore the myriad of shops, restaurants, and cafes that line the pier – all of which offer a great range of food, drinks, and snacks.
