The South West Coast Path follows the Cornish coast near Helston, an inland town close to Porthleven and the Lizard Peninsula. This section belongs to the 630-mile walking route between Minehead in Somerset and Poole Harbour in Dorset. Around Porthleven, granite harbour walls and the distinctive clock tower give the coastline a strong maritime identity. Eastward, the path reaches Loe Bar, a broad shingle barrier separating the sea from Loe Pool, Cornwall’s largest natural freshwater lake, before continuing toward Gunwalloe and the Lizard. The contrast between enclosed freshwater and open sea makes Loe Bar especially recognizable in wider views, while the route’s harbour, beaches and headlands show how sharply the landscape changes within a short stretch of coast.
