The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Starý Smokovec stands in the historic resort centre of Vysoké Tatry, at the foot of the High Tatras. Built in 1888, this small Catholic church combines Gothic-inspired pointed forms with the timber detailing of Alpine resort architecture. It belongs to the nineteenth-century development of Smokovec as a mountain health and holiday destination. Its steep roof, slender spire and dark woodwork distinguish it from the surrounding hotels and villas, while nearby trees give the building an intimate woodland setting within the resort.
