Smiling Sphinx Rock is one of the most striking natural wonders located in Hahei Beach, New Zealand. The iconic rock formation is located in a gentle bay, just off the beach. It was formed by years of erosion and stood the test of time, standing impressively from the sea bed. A wooden boardwalk offers the perfect opportunity for visitors to get up close and personal with the rock and take a snapshot for a memorable keepsake. The shoreline is ideal for swimming and fishing, and the nearby cafes, stores and galleries make for a pleasant day out. There is also a great walkway for bird watching and some of the native birds like tuis, kereru and wood pigeons often congregate in this area.
