📍 Iceland
Skútustaðagígar is a fascinating geological formation found in the Lake Mývatn area of northern Iceland. It is made up of dozens of pseudocraters, or "fake-craters" -- depressions in the earth created by exploding steam from underground geothermal activity. The formation is located in the middle of a marshland, with idyllic views of the surrounding volcanically-sculpted landscape. Despite the colorful name, the area is a still, peaceful environment with numerous birds flying about, and makes a great spot for animal watchers and bird lovers. This natural phenomenon provides a great backdrop of diverse and weird shapes, adding a whole new layer to the photographic scenery of northern Iceland.
