The Sitio Arqueológico San Andrés is an ancient Mayan archaeological site located in the village of Sitio del Niño, El Salvador. It was once a thriving city and important political center during the Classic period (600-900 AD) of the Mayan civilization. The site is most famous for its imposing central pyramid, which stands at 33 meters tall and is believed to have been the residence of the ruler of the city. It is also home to the Gran Acropolis, a complex of temples and palaces that were reserved for the elite class. Visitors can explore these structures, as well as see carved stelae and altars that depict important events in the city's history. The site is easily accessible by bus from San Salvador, and visitors should be prepared to walk on uneven terrain and steep stairs. It is recommended to visit in the morning or late afternoon, as the site can get very hot during midday. Admission fees apply for entry into the archaeological site.
