Sinquerim Fort
📍 India
Sinquerim Fort is the lower coastal outwork of Fort Aguada, standing at the southern end of Sinquerim Beach in the Candolim area of North Goa. Built by the Portuguese in the early 17th century, its laterite ramparts formed part of the defenses guarding the Mandovi River approaches and nearby anchorage. The fort’s low, angular walls extend toward the Arabian Sea, creating strong lines against the open horizon, while weathered stone, palms, fishing boats, and surf give the scene a distinctly Goan coastal character. From the beach, the most recognizable composition pairs the rust-colored bastions with breaking waves; late-day light deepens the tones of the laterite and silhouettes the parapets.
