Siegestor
📍 From Ludwigsstraße, Germany
Siegestor (German for Victory Gate) is an iconic triumphal arch in Munich, Germany. It is situated between Odeonsplatz and Ludwigstraße and was originally built in 1852 to commemorate the victorious wars of the 19th century Bavarian army. It was based on the design of the Arch of Constantine in Rome, Italy. The Siegestor welcomes visitors to the city center, surrounded by the Hofgarten park, several government buildings, and the Old and New Pinakotheks. Its winged figures of Bavaria and Victory are a popular photo subject due to the early morning light of the facade. The adjacent history museum is famous for its realistic depictions of wartime in Bavaria. Visitors can also find a number of memorials from different eras and branches of the Armed Forces of Germany.
