📍 From Upper Barrakka Gardens, Malta
The Siege Bell War Memorial in Il-Belt Valletta, Malta, is a large bell erected in 1992 to commemorate the Great Siege of 1565. The monument is situated at the Lascaris Ditch, a section of the line of fortifications that surrounded the city of Valletta. The bell was originally cast for the 500th anniversary of the Great Siege and hung in 1992, followed by a commemorative ceremony in August of that same year. Since then, the Siege Bell has come to herald Malta's sovereignty, as well as to remind all of the sacrifices made by the people of Malta during the lengthy siege. Interesting to note is that the surface of the bell is covered in 100 Maltese Crosses. Visitors can stand next the bell, admire the views, and take in some history.
