📍 Saudi Arabia
Near Al Hufayr in the Ha’il region, Al Nefud forms part of the vast sand sea stretching across northern Saudi Arabia. Its characteristic reddish-orange color comes from iron oxides coating the sand grains. Wind shapes the dunes into sweeping ridges and crescents, with fine ripples tracing their surfaces; low-angle sunlight emphasizes the contrast between illuminated crests and deeply shaded slopes. This is not an isolated desert: the long, narrow belt of Al Dahana links Al Nefud with the Rub’ al Khali farther south, forming a major connected sand system across the Arabian Peninsula.
