Shimotsuiseto Bridge in Kurashiki, Japan is a picturesque stone arch bridge spanning the canal that passes through the city's historic Bikan-Chiku district. This Edo-era bridge is outlined in traditional yellow and white, and has a roofed gatehouse known as a nagibuto, whose roof has been covered with wildflowers to create an eye-catching display. The bridge also features statues of kappa (water sprites) sculpted into the bases of each stone pillar. Nearby visitors can find the pleasure boats plying up and down the canal offering a peaceful journey. A walk through the old city reveals a well-preserved history and culture, while souvenir shops, traditional ryokans, and art museums spread along the narrow alleys provide additional opportunities for exploration.
