Shibam is an ancient city located in the Yemen. It is famous for its tall and unique mudbrick-made tower houses. It has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is best known as the oldest city with the world’s first skyscrapers. It consists of over 500 unique and well-preserved tower houses, some of which are up to 20 storeys tall. The cityscape is a maze of narrow winding streets, traditional markets and shops and host of traditional features. There are plenty of mosques and places to explore. There is also a local museum that displays ancient artifacts and artifacts from the archaeological excavations in the area. It is a must-see for anyone visiting Yemen.
